Mock Trial

The I Have a Dream Foundation adopts entire elementary schools in challenged D.C. neighborhoods, providing the children with tutoring, mentoring, academic support, cultural and recreational activities, and individualized attention. The Foundation’s goal is to ensure that the students it takes under its wings graduate from high school prepared for employment or further education.

Through the program, students, working with volunteer attorneys, put on a trial. Students pose as defendants, witnesses, attorneys, plaintiffs, judges and other court and trial personnel. Working with attorneys, students draft opening and closing arguments and conduct direct and cross-examination. The students gain an appreciation of the role of law in their everyday lives, while working with lawyers and others in preparing for trial. It is a very rewarding experience for everyone involved.

The 2005 Mock Trial will be held on Tuesday, May 24 at Garrison Elementary School at 1200 S Street, NW, Washington, DC. For a PDF flyer, including registration information, for the upcoming mock trial program, click here.
